“the Keith Lodge development, being set back from Cameron Street, has developed into a bit of a community with the residents looking out for one another. Friendly and approachable, generally Keith Lodge is a quiet, peaceful place to live”
The first of several projects completed for Aberdeen developer Stuff N Stuff ltd. This project challenged us in every direction with an ambitious brief for the C listed Manor in the Conservation Area. Renovation, new build and extension of a community asset was never going to be easy. Planning however, was approved by committee following our presentation.
Following close dialogue with planning, we developed a 12 unit socially inclusive flatted development re-using the Victorian Manor. The 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units are low energy, using super insulation and solar PV panels.
The extension and new build elements are designed around the creation of three communal courtyards of varying intimacy. These allow the residents the opportunity to meet, play and relax in a friendly socially geared place where community and families can grow together. The arrangement of the blocks help break down the mass and scale, allowing a dialogue with the old and new buildings in a quiet way, without annoying the neighbours.
