With kids grown up and the existing house damp and in disrepair, our clients had a bold vision for a new build house for their retirement in Laurencekirk.
With a sketch plan, a love of Scandinavian design and a brief to be energy self sufficient, they entrusted us to realise their dream.
We designed the first A++ energy rated building the Building control officer had seen, using super insulation (ICF), ground source heat pump, heat recovery, triple glazing, underfloor heating throughout and Solar PV panels .
The design is delicately composed and understated. Black zinc, larch cladding and render are used to give a contemporary feel whilst merging dormers with the roof. Triple glazed windows soar to the eaves giving a tangible feeling of light, space and connection with the rolling landscape and sky beyond. Views to the Cairngorms on a bright snowy day are breathtaking.
