A competition entry to create a social hub and landmark for the Leeds riverside area. The objective is to develop this prominent river side site in Leeds City Centre with a view to delivering a landmark development, worthy of it’s location between some of the most photogenic buildings in Leeds on this prestigious waterfront site.
The design intention is to generate a landmark and statement that represent the City of Leeds while at the same time creating a social hub that interacts with the surrounding area. The design of the fully glazed facade is aspires to maximise the quality of light and unobstructed views out from the building as well as providing a warm and welcoming beacon for the area.
Through the sourcing and specification of local materials, suppliers and contractors from the surrounding area, all elements of the refurbishment and the new extension works can be completed using the minimum amount of embodied energy during the construction process. In addition natural recyclable materials have been chosen for the building construction.
