B listed 12 Flats redevelopment of Victorian Lodge: Keith Lodge, Stonehaven
We created 12 contemporary socially inclusive flats re-using a Victorian villa in the Stonehaven conservation area. The ambition was to create a small sustainable community by developing a range of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units that are low energy. The result is a warm and socially inclusive environment where community and families can grow. Located in the heart of the conservation area and within proximity of some Grade C(s) listed buildings, the arrangement of the proposed blocks is such to break down the potential scale of this flatted development. This allow a dialogue between the old and new buildings in a quiet and subtle way, without the new development overwhelming the existing neighbouring buildings.
The arrangement of the extension and new build elements is specifically designed around the creation of a series of permeable, communally owned courtyards that offer a series of courtyard types. These allow the residents the opportunity to meet, play, relax and socialise in a friendly socially oriented environment.
