House extension and refurbishment for an Architect- Milngavie
We were honoured to accept a commission from an Architect. A forward thinking family looking for an expressive extension and refurbishment to their Victorian family home in the conservation streetscape. We have created a composition that compliments the house visually ,metaphorically, spatially and expressively opens out to the views over Milngavie. A project designed to bring family living centered around a light filled kitchen and a party room over some stunning views!
The extension is dramatic yet sympathetic, using angles borrowed from the language of the existing.
The composition is modern and juxtaposes with the house affording the original Victorian dwelling to retain its character clearly.
Windows are oriented to have no overlooking issues with neighbours.
Upstairs we have broken the difficult connection to the new roof using a low store. This also affords a good separation between the house and extension.Timber posts are used to define and articulate the space/ elevation.
We have kept the entrance very subtle only a cantilevered roof and small white seat indicate the entrance on arrival. No building as such and no impact on the view from Garwhitter Drive.
Please note The 3D emphasises the perspective and is in fact much lower than the existing roof. Please see the elevations.
